Contest Time!

Spring can mean only one thing in Toastmasters – it’s Contest Time again. Each spring we hold our International Speech contest and our Evaluation contests. For some people the idea of any kind of public speaking is terrifying. However people come to Toastmasters to get over that fear but don’t stop there. Continuous self-improvement leads many on the path to competition.

For those new to Toastmasters:

  • Each club holds a contest and the winners proceed to the Area contest.
  • The winners of the Area contest proceed to the Division contest. Division X comprises 8 clubs in 2 areas for Kelowna, 4 clubs in the South Okanagan area and 3 clubs covering the Nelson, Castlegar and Nakusp area.
  • The winners of the Division contest proceed to the District contest.  District 21 covers Vancouver Island, parts of Vancouver and the lower mainland and the Southern Interior from Oliver to Kamloops to Cranbrook, to Nakusp.
  • The winners of the District contest go to join the best speakers and evaluators from around THE WORLD.

The Division X winners were Reen Rose for the International Speech contest and Brad Smart for the Evaluation contest, pictured right

They represented our Division at the District 21 contests at the Ramada Conference hotel, Abbotsford on April 30th and May 1st.

We were so proud of the great job they did.

Brad gained 2nd place in the Evaluation Contest.

Thank you to all of the contest chairs, chief judges, judges, ballot counters and contestants at every step in the contest season!!
